Welcome to the McFarlane Park trailhead! This is the dividing point. If you are looking for paved trails you will want to head towards Evansdale. Otherwise the un-paved section continues eventually until Marion. McFarlane Park offers camping, fishing, hunting, picnicking, and hiking trails. It is located next to the Cedar River and has boat-ramp access. For more information go to the McFarlane section.
There is a small shelter, bike rack, and information sign located at the McFarlane trailhead. Restroom facilities are available in the park. Also during the regular camping season there is a pop machine located near the ranger's house. Just head in the direction of the park and you'll run right into it if it's there.
These are a couple of recent additions to the trailhead. A drinking fountain and hydrant are located near the shelter. There is also a small butterfly garden on the trailhead. This fountain and butterfly garden were placed in memory of Cliff Niemeyer funded by a memorial fund donated from his family. This provides a place for trail users to sit and relax and get a refreshing drink while enjoying the beautiful garden.
While we do not require a trail pass we have converted the old pass registration boxes into trail donation posts. There is one of these located at the McFarlane Trailhead. These should contain donation envelops where you can make your donation. If you appreciate the trail and wish to see it continue please make a donation.
