Welcome to McFarlane Park Online!

September 2010!

BIG NEWS ABOUT THE PLAYGROUND!

THE PLAYGROUND HAS BEEN ORDERED!

The playground is set to be delivered on October 18th! We're planning on a construction weekend on October 29th-30th and possibly the next weekend, mark the date on your calendars! We would also like to thank all of those people who made donations, bought shirts, walking sticks, and participated in our fundraising events.

Also for your information. There is road construction going on Bishop Road. This will widen and resurface the road which will be a great benefit. There is a detour in place at this time to reach the park.

Follow Main Street out of town. It will turn into a gravel road. Then turn left on King Road and continue on that road and it will take you to the park. There are signs posted and it isn't too much longer than the normal route. We appreciate your patience during this improvement.

The Link tab has been changed. To access different areas of this site all you need to do is hover over the section you're interested in and it will pull up a popup menu. Hopefully this makes things easier to navigate. If you have any feedback on this matter or any others please don't hesitate to contact us.

UPDATE REGARDING CEDAR RIVER BRIDGES!-May 2010!

BIG NEWS construction on the Evansdale bridge!

Evansdale Bridge: The bids have been completed, and the job is issued. If you've been around the area you will have noticed some of the steel for the bridge is at the location. Demolition of the old bridge and construction of the new one should begin soon!

McFarlane Bridge: As for the McFarlane bridge that is another story, as you know we are getting some money from FEMA but because that bridge was determined to have some pre-existing issues they are not funding the entire bridge. The County Conservation Board is looking into some grants, and has authorized the designing phase of an arched bridge for that area. There are some promising grants so there is a remote possibility that construction may begin sooner then initially thought.

We will pass on information as it becomes available regarding the bridges

Looking back at my childhood; I remember the work I would put into doing something as simple as blowing bubbles. Finding the perfect water/soap combination, blowing just hard enough to separate the bubble from the stick without popping it! Or for the big ones; swinging the ring just enough to make the bubble, now they’ve made it easier.

This seems like cheating to me!

PARTS OF THE CEDAR VALLEY NATURE TRAIL ARE CLOSED! (01-03-09) The damage to the trail from last year’s flooding was extreme, not all the damage has been repaired yet. The Cedar River bridges are still closed near McFarlane Park and Evansdale. Also from Carter Rd (2 miles west of Brandon) to the McFarlane Cedar River Bridge is still closed.

Picture mature oak trees on a sandy knoll at the confluence of the Cedar River and Wolf Creek. Also picture wandering woodland trails and a manicured campground. Imagine a woodland cabin, picnic shelter, shower house, playground, boat ramp and dump station for RV or pull campers. Throw in few woodland pools; a lot of wildlife and you have McFarlane Park.

McFarlane is quite a campground and is a great place to enjoy nature or bring friends and circle the wagons. So whether you want to sit in the dark and listen to the lonely hoot of the Barred Owl or sit by the fire and enjoy the company of friends, McFarlane is your choice.
